Version 1.1 released!


We have released our first update to The Bucket after it's initial release for the GMTK 2021 game jam! This update's main purpose is to address the extreme difficulty that was present on release, along with some extra additions and polish.

Additions:

  • Added a parrying system!
    • Performing a successful block that was initiated right before the enemy's attack will result in a 'parry', which slows time and stuns the enemy for a duration.
    • This can also be performed on fireballs, which reflects them back at enemies.
  • Added an options menu, currently containing some volume sliders.
  • Added a pause menu, which can be activated during the arena/shop via Escape or P.
  • Added an attack direction indicator, which gives a general idea of the area the player will attack in.

Balancing:

  • Enemies now have much more delay before attacking, giving the player a longer window to attack first.
  • Stats now have minimum values, which upgrades will not be able to decrease them past (indicated by "min" next to the stat when in effect).
  • Enemies will now attempt to spread out rather than always beeline to the player.
  • Decreased the grunts' hit range, and removed melee attacks from spellcasters.
  • Adjusted some player and enemy stats
    • Most significantly, raised the player's base health from 100 to 200.

Tweaks:

  • Replaced the default OS cursor with a custom sprite.
  • Fireballs are colored differently depending on who shot them.
  • Attacking now happens on the 'slash' frame, rather than the frame the mouse was clicked.
    • In addition, the 'slash' frame now has a constant duration (now only the wind up and recovery frames are affected by attack speed).
  • Attack hitbox is now arc-shaped rather than triangle-shaped.
  • The arena now has doors that the enemies arrive from.
  • Fixed player not rotating while blocking.
